Hundreds of children celebrate the season at Christmas in the City The traditional party, held in Westborough this year, hosted many families who had fled violence in their countries. Thirty-five years ago, Sparky Kennedy and her husband, Jake, started what became a huge holiday tradition in Boston: a festive party for shelter residents known as Christmas In the City. What began as an effort to help make memorable holidays for those in need has expanded to year round programs to help families make the transition from homelessness to independent living.
